Using Eyelets in Junk Journals

by Fran Brown
(Abbotsford, BC, Canada)

I have been using 3/16 eyelets. I just made a junk journal and the eyelets are popping out. I used 2 inch ring binders, so am assuming 2 things; the shank of the eyelet is too short as I noticed it did not go thru' well and I possibly have the book to chunky.

I would like to keep all the pages I put in the journal and would like to know if there are eyelets with longer shanks? And, where do I get them. Are We are Memory Keepers eyelets better than the ones from Fabricana? (In Canada), West coast.

Hope there is an answer to my problem.
Thank you

Long Shank Eyelet
by: Claire

Long shank eyelets are made -- i have used them many times. if you book is chunky, they still might not be long enough! sometimes it is hard to find the right combo of hole opening size and length of the shaft of the eyelet.

I have ordered from Volcano Arts and the are great to deal with. Other online scrapbook sites might carry the long shank ones -- but you have to be sure they are long shank.

Good luck!

Not sure where you can get the eyelets but I sometimes use a permanent glue or glossy accents in the hole edges and around the eyelet when I put my eyelets in as this sometimes adds some extra reinforcement and keeps the eyelets in. You don't want to use too much as it will seep out but I find that a little bit does help. Maybe also look in the sewing sections of the craft stores as they sometimes have different eyelets than the paper craft section.

Eyelies
by: Lusa

Hi Fran and Debbie-Anne.

I have not personally contacted this company but have heard others talk about them. They apparently have lots of info for bookmakers on their site (and a whole tab for brads), So maybe it is worth a look and /or a call. I hope it helps. Be sure to keep us posted. 😊
