Sealing Journal Pages?

by Carol
(Polk County, Georgia)

I am making a junk journal/diary and am going to be writing in it soon. My plans are to glue small photos and ephemera and other paper items on my page to go along with my writing. I'm wondering what medium to use over the full page after I have written on it and glued my paper items on the page. The only thing I have used in the past is mod podge, but never over my ink. What won't smear the ink from my pen. Can you help me?

Thanks so much!

Carol

Hi Carol,

I don't usually seal my journal pages. Mod Podge is a glue and it will age, dry and crack in time so I prefer not use it this way and rather let my ephemera, photos and paper age naturally. Also, it has a tendency to make thinner paper bubble and wrinkle which can ruin the look of a journal page. If it's a collage page/art journal, I use gel medium which works both as glue and seal.

You'll need a permanent pen or marker so that your ink doesn't smear when you coat it. Another option might be to spray the seal on instead of brushing it.

I hope that helps!
