Forget Me Not
Wall Hanging
..and oh yeah, it's a treasure box too!

I got an order in this box and I challenged myself to do something lovely with Forget Me Not, one of my favorite digital download kits from Ephemeras Vintage Garden. A few years ago I read a book about the decline of songbirds in the United States. It really stuck with me and this little project speaks to that.

The first step was to prepare and decoupage old book pages on the outside and then the inside. When I prepare old book pages for use like this, I tear off all the white page margins. I just like the rich, dense effect that I get without that "white space".

Then I glued one of the more simple pages from the download on the front cover of the box. I love the lace and the very pretty olive band- made the perfect backdrop for what came next. About eight years ago I bought collage sheets of birds and nests on etsy and then they promptly ended up in my stash for years and years!

This was the time to put them to use. I tore them from the collage sheet and inked the edges. I had three sweet little plastic eggs in my "tiny treasures" box- I'm sure you have a box like that too! Then I raided my special jar titled "Things That Are Light" where I got the wasp's nest and the feather.

Lastly, I added vintage seam binding and twine around the edge to create the hanger and a sweet swath of blue beads and lace to the bottom edge. It was such fun to create a treasure out of a throw-away box. I'm so happy with how it turned out. I hope this inspires you to try using the downloads in new ways.

This is a wonderful idea, upcycling an old box into this piece of art. I love this kit, one of my favourite ones, too. Beautiful work. :)
