Copyright Infringement on Book Covers

Hi, I just learned about junk journals and think yours are beautiful. I don't think I would be selling any if I made them, but I'm curious about concerns re copyright infringement in selling books with someone else's cover artwork that is less than 100 years old. Has this been an issue for you?

Thanks.

Martha

Hi Martha, this hasn't been an issue for me. Any books I've used don't typically have images on the cover (with a few exceptions of book cover I used with images from the 50's). I don't know the rules about modern books and how the cover artwork copyright comes into play. I'm sure there are some fair use rules about it and with good reason.

My basic copyright knowledge only extends to images in the public domain and what can and cannot be reproduced for use in digital works.

But 'when in doubt, don't', is what I always say.

Thank you for your question!
